Our team is on the ground now and we will be assisting Nepali rescue teams by providing them with food/manpower/tools and transportation.
The Hotel Mandap will be turned into a command center for Nepal’s national media as well as a planning hub for operations and a source for missing person information. We need your contributions.
Himalayan Aid is digging in for the long haul with this effort. We’ve been in Nepal for 20 years–we’re not going anywhere.
I’ll keep you updated with progress reports and photos as they come in. Watch this space.

FIRST DAYS of RELIEF WORK:

2251 Residents150 bags of rice delivered69 tarps6 long rolls of tarp material. Two death benefits paid out.Himalayan Aid was first in Jethal with our truckload. The following day another private effort and the government arrived making the total number of rice bags delivered to the Silunga VDC depot around 500.VDC committee of 5 individuals pooled and divided the rice for distribution among the 9 wards, giving each household approximately one bag each. Village leaders kept the process orderly and efficient. This rice will sustain Jethal district residents for roughly one month.Truck, gas, driver, and trip from Kathmandu to Jethal Rs 15,000100 bags of rice @ Rs1500 (50 bags donated) 150,000Death compensation for two families 20,000Tarps (donated)Total (est. $1900 USD) Rs 185,000
5/2 SUCCESS! We made it! First truck went through with rice and supplies and hundreds of villagers turned out for distribution. Himalayan Aid is the first to reach this area. Thousands in need of more rice and tarps. $1900 for one truck, 3 local Nepalese to escort, 100 bags of rice and saving a village; not bad for the price. ALL NEPALI EFFORT IS THE WAY.
5/1 Over the last few days Himalayan Aid has been adjusting ways to get trucks with supplies through to areas significantly affected and not yet reached by any other aid. Unfortunately, the Nepalese government is making this very difficult. We’ve purchased 100 bags of rice, 57 tarps and 6 rolls of tarp material. We will watch this trip for safety and to learn the situation.
4/28 AquaSun partially donated one of their solar water sanitation units that provides a gallon a minute of clean water even filtered through mud. This 50lb gem is on my lap the whole flight over.
